Some organisations require more elaborate showcasing of their capabilities than can be achieved in print.
In this field, Jim has produced a number of capability DVDs for organisations such as the Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing (VPAC) and Timemac Ltd.
In the first instance, the need was to illustrate the enormous capacity of a new super-computing facility based at RMIT.
This was done by creating a short looping DVD which provided examples of the various research projects in industry, medicine and astronomy that VPAC was involved in and running it with an illustrative commentary.
For Timemac, Jim scripted and produced a dramatised DVD that provided a resource on DNA fingerprinting techniques for Year 12 and first-year medical students.
Jim Howes’s experience in writing across a wide spectrum of formats and his background in acting, give him a good feel for the use of the spoken word and the moving image.
